Our EdTech researcher in learning analytics, Prof Dr Poquet and international co-authors received the best paper award at the highly ranked international conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge. Their study looked at how students' study behavior changes over time using trace data from a flipped engineering course. The researchers used a novel method inspired by complex dynamical systems to create indicators of disorder in regular study behaviour and grouped students into profiles based on whether their study behavior changed throughout the course. The profiles were associated with different grades in the course and measures of self-regulated learning.
A different group of EdTech centre’s researchers led by Prof Dr Krusche also received an award at the highly ranked Learning Analytics and Knowledge conference – this time as a best practitioner report. Sölch, Aberle, and Krusche presented Artemis - an interactive learning system that organizes courses, hosts lecture content and interactive exercises, conducts exams, and creates automatic assessments with individual feedback. This team presented a practical solution for a digital competence-based education, with learning analytics applications – as Artemis measures and visualizes the student’s progress toward mastering a competency and could generate a personalized learning path for students that recommends relevant learning resources.
