The TUMTutor system allows students to ‘talk’ to a lecture anonymously and be ‘quizzed’ by the lecture. Lecturers can see which questions and groups of questions are asked and can thus immediately respond to obviously difficult or misunderstood learning content. Originally created as part of a software development project at TUM and then further developed by five students, it was launched at TUM in mid-November and now has more than 3.000 users who have answered more than 100.000 quizzes and conducted more than 50.000 chat interactions.
An effectiveness evaluation is to follow in March. For this reason, the accompanying research project AIffectiviness will be launched under the leadership of the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation, in which the effectiveness of selected courses (5-10 per institution) will be analysed with four HAWs, four universities and the Bavarian Virtual University (vhb).
At our Guest talk, Prof. Dr. Alexander Pretschner will present the TUMTutor, its features and provide insights about the current use of the tool at TUM.
