The Hanns Martin Schleyer-Stiftung, in cooperation with the Heinz Nixdorf Stiftung and the Technical University of Munich, organised the Hochschulsymposium on the topic of “AI in Science – How Should We Restructure Our Universities?”
On 10–11 November 2025, our director Prof. Dr. Enkelejda Kasneci participated in the XVIII. Hochschulsymposium “KI in der Wissenschaft – Wie gestalten wir die Universitäten neu?” (in English: AI in Science – How Should We Restructure Our Universities?) held by the Hanns Martin Schleyer-Stiftung, in cooperation with the Heinz Nixdorf Stiftung and the Technical University of Munich. The symposium brought together international experts from academia, policy, and practice to Munich, in a series of plenum and podium discussions.
Our contribution focused on the panel „Herausforderungen für die Lehre – KI in der akademischen Ausbildung“ (i.e., “Challenges for Teaching – AI in Academic Education”). Next to our director, Prof. Dr. Enkelejda Kasneci, the panel discussion featured Prof. Dr. Ulrike Cress (Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen), Prof. Heather C. Hill, Ph.D. (Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, USA), and Prof. Allison Littlejohn (University College London). The discussion addressed key issues such as academic integrity, the development of AI literacy, new teaching and assessment formats, and the need for clear institutional strategies.
The exchange highlighted complementary international perspectives on current developments in higher education. Drawing on experiences from Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom, the panel explored how institutions are adapting teaching practices, governance structures, and quality standards. A central focus was how these diverse approaches can inform one another and contribute to the development of coherent, forward-looking institutional and policy frameworks across contexts.
